Gastrocote Liquid eases the discomfort of indigestion and heartburn, including
- Heartburn in pregnancy
- Reflux oesophagitis
- Gastric reflux
- Acid indigestion.
Adults and the elderly
Take one to three 5ml spoonfuls four times a day
Children 6 to 12 years old
Take one to two 5ml spoonfuls four times a day- For oral use
- Shake the bottle before use
- Take after main meals and at bedtime.
Do not give to children under 6 unless your doctor tells you to.
If your symptoms persist ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Each 5ml contains: sodium alginate 220mg, dried aluminium hydroxide gel 80mg, magnesium trisilicate 40mg, sodium bicarbonate 70mg as the active ingredients.
Also contains: Sunset yellow (E110), sodium, sodium methylhydroxybenzoate, sodium propylhydroxybenzoate – see enclosed leaflet for further information.
Do not store above 25°C.

Gastrocote Liquid contains a combination of medicines called antacids and alginates. Antacids work by neutralising stomach acids and alginates help to protect the lining of the gullet from the stomach acid.
Before you use this medicine
Do not use the medicine if you or your child have
- an allergy to any of the ingredients listed in section 3. This product contains sunset yellow and hydroxybenzoates which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you or your child
- have kidney problems
- are on a controlled salt or phosphate diet. This product contains 2.13 mmol (49mg) of sodium per 5ml dose. This should be taken into account by people on a controlled sodium diet.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking
- other medicines, as this product can interfere with them.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Gastrocote Liquid can have side effects, although these don’t affect everyone.
- Flatulence (wind) may occur.
- If you notice this or any other side effect, stop use and tell your doctor or pharmacist. They will tell you what to do.
If you take too much
If you accidentally take too much, see a doctor straight away.
Take the pack with you to show which medicine you have swallowed.

- Medicine should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of any unused medicine. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Other ingredients: aluminium magnesium silicate, sunset yellow (E110), butterscotch flavour, peppermint liquid, saccharin sodium, Sodium methyl hydroxybenzoate (E219), Sodium propylhydroxybenzoate (E217) and purified water.
What the medicine looks like
Gastrocote Liquid is a peach coloured suspension which smells of butterscotch and mint. It is supplied in 150ml bottles.
